Google Assistant reads aloud in 42 languages

Google AssistantNow Google Assistant can read aloud web pages on the Internet. And he does it in 42 languages (including Russian).

Back in early 2020. Google announced new features in its voice engine. One such feature: you can ask the voice assistant to read the open web page aloud. Initially, the function worked only with English-language sources, now there is support for the Russian language.

The read aloud function can be used, for example, to read long pages or when it is inconvenient to read, for example, on public transport, using a voice engine and headphones.

While the service of “voice reading” the page only works in browsers powered by the Chromium engine (Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge), Firefox is not supported.

How does Google Assistant work? We just open the necessary page on the Internet, call the Assistant with the command “Ok, Google” and ask “read the page” or “read the page aloud”.

The page reader user interface will open and the browser will automatically scroll down the page while Google Assistant reads it aloud. You can use the buttons on the screen to pause reading or go back / forward. If the original article is not in your native language, the Assistant can read aloud in 42 languages. You can use the translation menu to select the language you would like to hear and the Helper will always use that language.

The Read Aloud feature works on many sites. However, specifically for website developers and webmasters, Google released the “nopagereadaloud” tag to prevent the Assistant from reading the page aloud.

Try the new Assistant feature in your smartphone and write in the comments the phone model and whether this feature works or not.
