Encryption is the first thing you should enable on your phone. Without encryption, your smartphone is a godsend for anyone who finds it. Encryption is really the function that keeps all user data from third parties' interference.
The encryption function “masks” all data on the phone and memory card, and without a password it is almost impossible to access them.
So how do you enable encryption? Go to:
Settings -> Advanced settings -> Privacy -> Encryption and credentials -> Device encryption (for example Xiaomi). The path may be different on your phone.
If you cannot find the “Encryption” item, use the search in the settings. In the search box, enter “Encryption” and select “Device encryption”. Enable encryption.
Thus, you can encrypt all your accounts on the phone, settings, installed programs and games, custom media files, etc. But with the inclusion of encryption, there are several minor disadvantages:
- When the phone is off, the alarm will not work.
- You will have to enter your password every time you reboot the device and every 72 hours (in Xiaomi). Rebooting and turning on the phone itself will take longer.
- You need to set a new lock screen password.
- You need to REMEMBER the new password, otherwise it will be IMPOSSIBLE to recover it. You will have to perform a full factory reset and erase all data on the device.
Encryption is available on all modern versions of Android, starting with Android 4. I advise you to set a complex password of 12 characters or more, which you will not forget.
Today there are only 2 ways to break your encryption (and even then they require incomparable time and, possibly, money costs): brute force or some kind of backdoors with Root rights. But even with Ruth's rights, we will not be able to decrypt the internal storage in the phone and we will not pull anything out of there. The only working way is to enter the key from the encrypted partition and boot the system.
Without encryption, your phone doesn't belong to you. It is possible to encrypt the internal memory in the phone and the SD card. And if there is a really 'strong' password, it is very difficult to hack your phone, and only through brute force (password guessing).
There are no other ways to protect data on your smartphone. Encryption is the most secure method. I don't know how to bypass encryption other than brute force. And then it will take a very long time.
Encryption Android uses the same encryption methods as iPhone. But a customized device on Android will be several times safer than on an iPhone.
