What else, besides animals, you can watch in 3D on Google

'Watch 3d animals'. It was this query that remained the most popular in Google for several weeks, and our instruction, in which we described in detail what and how, still holds the first place in terms of the number of reads among our readers. Why? In fact, there can be many reasons, and one may well be combined with the other. This is the use of augmented reality, and mortal boredom in self-isolation, and just a banal interest. After all, frankly speaking, very few people managed to look at a real tiger not from afar. However, you can look at Google not only animals, but also much more.

Want to study anatomy at home? With Google and Visible Body, it couldn't be easier

Google, having enlisted the support of the Visible Body development team, engaged in the creation of applications for the study of anatomy, launched in its search engine the ability to look in 3D the structure of the human skeleton, cells and internal organs. In total, more than 20 different models are available to users. Like animals, they can be placed in your room using augmented reality, and you can see how one or another element of the skeleton, organ or cell works.

  • Heart
  • Liver
  • Lungs

Despite the fact that the official list of 3D models ends here, my personal experience has shown that in fact there are many more. For example, I managed to find the AR-figure of the stomach and colon (colon) by typing. Therefore, I believe that in this way you can find other organs, if you are interested in their structure. I specifically give the romanized names of organs, because there is one trick here.

Finding 3D models of organs is highly complicated

If you try to find 3D models of human organs or the structure of a cell in Russian, I guarantee you that your experiment will not be crowned with success. I don't know why this happened, but Google finds them only if the request is formed in a special way: the name of the body in English + “visible body”, where visible body is the name of the studio that provides Google with three-dimensional models. That is, if you are looking for a heart, you should get: heart visible body. If you do not make this postscript, the search engine will not give you what you are looking for.

Important: unlike animals, organ models do not always appear at the very top of the search. Sometimes you have to scroll down a bit to find what you need. Then you just have to click on the 'Watch in 3D' button and, after the figure appears in a separate window, click on 'Watch at home' and place it on a flat surface. You can also resize the model, zoom in on its individual elements, walk around it, and even take photos with it and record video.

In my opinion, it's very cool that Google managed to agree with Visible Body to provide its users with free access to three-dimensional models of organs and other biological elements such as cells. Moreover, it is almost impossible to find out that such a possibility exists in principle by chance, since Google does not talk about it anywhere. Therefore, if you stumbled upon this phenomenon, then most likely it happened, like mine, absolutely by accident. Moreover, coming up with the correct method of searching for models is still a challenge.
