Dictaphone In this article, we'll take a look at the Sound Recorder app on Samsung devices. In your phone, it may be called a little differently, but the meaning is the same – it is recording voice notes through a microphone (like recording on a dictaphone).

There are 2 modes of operation in sound recording:

  1. standard, when you just say some kind of voice message;
  2. speech to text, when your speech is recognized, it is written in text.

The standard recording type records audio files – your voice.

Or you can convert your speech to text (maximum 10 minutes). For best results, hold the phone no more than 20 cm from your mouth and speak clearly. It is desirable that there are no strong extraneous noises. Unfortunately, the quality of speech recognition is significantly inferior to the capabilities of a similar service from Google. The phone recognized my voice with errors even in a quiet room.

You can view your notes like this: click on the “list” at the top right. I have only 2 notes without a category. Each audio recording can be assigned a category, just like with standard notes.

To go to the settings for your audio notes on the recorder, click on the three dots in the upper right corner and select “Settings”. We have 3 options before us:

  1. Recording quality. I recommend choosing a high quality recording (256 kilobits and 48 kilohertz). But in order to save space on the phone, medium quality is also suitable. Recording quality
  2. Block calls while recording. It's better not to turn it on if you don't want to miss the call. But when you are writing down something important and you cannot be distracted, you can block incoming.
  3. About the application “voice recorder”. Here you can view the current version of the program and update it.
