Google Assistant is considered one of the most user-friendly voice assistants available on the market today. His quickness plays a significant role in this. Google developers configured it in such a way that it turns on even before the user finishes pronouncing the activator phrase. However, because of this, various kinds of embarrassment periodically occur, which basically boil down to the fact that Google Assistant takes a phrase that was not intended for him as an activation command. Therefore, Google decided to make certain changes to the assistant device.
Sensitivity settings will minimize accidental activation of the assistant
Google is working on software algorithms that will improve the sensitivity of Google Assistant. Thus, the company's developers want to reduce the likelihood of involuntary activation of the assistant by teaching him to respond only to direct calls and ignore speech constructions that are similar to an activator phrase, but are not. For the convenience of users, it is planned to implement three levels of sensitivity, between which it will be possible to switch depending on the operating conditions.
Why does Google Assistant turn on by itself
Smart speakers still need sensitivity adjustment more than smartphones
For example, if a smart speaker with Google Assistant is next to a TV, obviously, you need to turn on a high level of sensitivity, because otherwise the assistant will probably perceive the dialogues of actors and TV show hosts as a call for activation. True, most likely, for this you will have to sacrifice something. It is possible that in this mode Google Assistant will either listen to everything that is happening around, almost constantly, or react more slowly to user requests. However, these are just speculations.
Judging by the content of the Google application code, in which it was possible to find references to the innovation, at first the sensitivity increase will not work in all countries and not for all languages. Obviously, this is due to the fact that Google Assistant will have to conduct a more thorough analysis of words in order to correctly interpret what is heard, and this, apparently, requires in-depth knowledge of the language in which communication is conducted. Therefore, the version that in the increased sensitivity mode the assistant will respond with a longer delay, it makes more and more sense.
Google Assistant sensitivity
When the sensitivity settings will be released and, most importantly, on what devices they will be available, is not reported. However, logically, this function would be most useful for users of smart speakers who are constantly on alert and always waiting to be contacted. With smartphones, accidental alarms are less common. Still, in order to activate Google Assistant on a smartphone, you first need to wake up the device itself, and only then call the voice assistant. In addition, smartphones are usually located in the immediate vicinity of the user, while speakers can be located several meters away.
However, Google has long known about the problem of involuntary Google Assistant triggering, and therefore provides users with the ability to quickly delete a phrase accidentally recorded by the assistant. To do this, you don't even need to go to the profile settings and look for the desired entry manually, which, in general, is also possible. You just need to ask Google Assistant to delete the last recorded dialogue or all calls for a week or month. This command works both in Russian and in English, and any other languages.
