Almost from the very first days of its existence Android, an image of a platform for inexpensive devices has formed around it. Despite the fact that the flagship smartphones based on the OS from Google cost no less, and sometimes more expensive than the top ones iPhone, it was almost impossible to break the prevailing stereotype. No matter how users tried to justify their choice with openness Android, its functionality and wide customization capabilities, no one believed in it anyway. So I wondered why people actually prefer Android?
Most users did not choose Android. It just happened
Asking why users chose Android is most logical from the users themselves. After all, who else but they can know about the deep impulses of their brain. The respondents did not have to go far. I just created a poll in our chat on Telegram, and got a quite relevant sample, on the basis of which I formed a fairly clear vision of the situation. Now I propose to look at it for you and decide which category you belong to or, if you have your own answer, write about it in the comments.
What is Android better than iOS
The availability of smartphones on Android is the main criterion for most users
Almost a third of all respondents – 27% – choose Android and not iOS, precisely because of the low entry threshold. That is, whatever one may say, but the most important role here is the question of price. Most people, according to statistical studies, are willing to pay for a smartphone in the region of 15-20 thousand rubles. Despite the fact that Apple has smartphones from this price category, firstly, there are not very many of them, and, secondly, all of these are quite new and, as a result, not very attractive in appearance and function models. Android has no problem with this. For 15-20 thousand rubles, you can buy a near-flagship Galaxy A51 and not know grief for at least a couple of years.
In second place with a score of 25% is functionality. As it turned out, many users appreciate Android primarily for its capabilities, which, in their opinion, are clearly more than those of iOS. If you look closely, it turns out that this is indeed the case. Google Assistant is clearly superior to Siri, built-in camera applications always offer a wider range of add-ons, and the ability to replace standard applications with third-party ones rather seriously, albeit indirectly, helps to expand the functions available to users.
Why openness is needed Android
For openness and customization, which are conceptually close to each other, 15% voted each. According to users, openness Android, whatever one may say, provides a better work with files than iOS, allows you to access third-party sources of applications, and, in general, allows you to make a choice, which is practically not on iOS. Rather, customization is the next stage of openness. It allows you to change the appearance and functionality of the OS, as well as customize the interface and system mechanisms as the user likes.
But not only the affordable price of smartphones attracts users Android
Surprisingly, only 10 and 4% voted for the ability to install custom firmware and download free software, respectively. This is a very indicative result, which indicates that most modern users do not care about flashing and they just want to use their smartphones. And the rejection of free software confirms their solvency and refutes the version that Android is an operating system for the poor and the arrogant.
I myself, to be honest, consider myself to be among the first. It's really hard for me to convince myself that it makes sense to buy a smartphone with a price of under a hundred thousand rubles, when next to it lies, if not exactly the same, then very similar, but for 30 thousand. A colossal difference, if you think about it. Yes, Android – smartphones are updated for 2-3 years, yes, they are more likely to suffer from vulnerabilities, and Google Play periodically suffers from malicious applications. But we have learned to treat this philosophically, without malice, because we understand that we have to pay something for saving.
