Your first smartphone versus the current one: is there a difference?

Let's remember what our first phones were like. This topic was raised by a user Twitter. He asked other members to share a photo of his first phone and his current one. Thus, one can easily trace the difference between what the devices were 15-20 years ago and what they are now. For many young readers Android Insider, such a comparison may seem unusual, but the rest can remember the past and share their first phone in the comments.

Your first smartphone against the current one. How big is the difference?

The author of the publication was @bigup_universe. At the time of writing, the tweet has received 1,000 likes, 70 retweets and 800 comments. The numbers continue to rise.

User @mosgorfilm shared his new one iPhone, but, of course, he was not left without attention:

I am reminded of a Siemens smartphone, which at one time was extremely popular. Remembering the exact name of the model will now be problematic:

Sony Ericsson smartphones used to be quite unique in appearance:

You can see that all phones, although they seem similar, but felt very differently. Smartphones are much more of the same type today than they used to be.

You can find these funny tweets in the thread:

But this device from Nokia should be remembered by everyone. At one time, it was extremely popular due to its functionality and premium appearance:

I also shared my first device. It was the Samsung C110 – for its time it was quite budget, and it could not even launch third-party games (at least I did not know how to do it).

And the next device from Nokia even today seems extremely strict and premium:

Just look at the three-dimensional shape of the buttons and the metal ends, similar to those in HTC 10:

And the next device was one of my most coveted as a child due to its extremely unusual front panel design. How diverse were the devices of those times:

The 'books' were popular in the 2000s. One of these was shared by @lleemay. These solutions were convenient due to the ability to quickly view the time on the screen. This is an analogue of the modern Always On Display function:

But this Motorola Razr V3 really at one time everyone wanted. Compared to other phones, the device seemed like a real iPhone. It offered just an amazingly slim body and stylish looks. Even today the phone looks interesting:

How do you like this handsome man in a rubber skeleton? To stand out from the competition, manufacturers had to come up with very strange things:

Just look at this little one. The second display is in the form of a watch with a dial. Isn't he beautiful?

Of course, this is an amazing thread that I can't remember having any analogues. The phones of those times, although not as functional, had their own unique style. One and the same manufacturer could produce devices in completely different styles. Today, Samsung makes devices that are very difficult to distinguish.

As I recall, in the 2000s, the most popular devices were Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Samsung, Siemens and Motorola. Samsung was one of the first to offer sliders. Of course, in those days there was no such hype around phones, but even then sliders seemed to be something cool – a different form factor.

Of course, compared to the above, it can be understood that phones have become much more functional. Previously, having Bluetooth in a device was considered cool, comparable to having a face scanner or 12GB of RAM. I can still remember when the second Samsung E200 phone was bought for me (I still remember its name). And it cost 3,500 rubles. It was introduced back in 2007 and was considered a budget model. I really wanted Sony Ericsson, it was made of soft-touch plastic, but the consultant persuaded my parents to buy this Samsung, because there was Bluetooth, and not an infrared port. And I still regret not taking that cool Sony Ericsson, although I understand that technically, perhaps, this Samsung was better.

Samsung E200 was cool

After the sliders, touchscreen phones became popular, and then Nokia and Samsung became the main competitors. My next gadget was Nokia 5228 . It was also considered a budget one for its time and cost about 5 thousand rubles, but for me this upgrade was significant.

Nokia 5228

The device was much more powerful than the old Samsung, it offered a cool big screen, the ability to connect to the Internet via 2G. Of course, there were already 3G smartphones then, but even that I was glad. We were most pleased with the multimedia capabilities. It was a great way to listen to music with quality sound – in this regard, Nokia always seemed to be better than the competition.

But the next gadget, to my surprise, was not Android – a phone, but HTC Mozart on Windows Phone 7, bought for 7990 rubles. This is the most controversial gadget I have ever owned. What made Windows Phone different from Android phones? They had an extremely responsive touch, comparable to that in iPhone. I had a choice: buy Fly Turbo on a dual-core processor or Mozart. At that time, two cores in a smartphone for 10 thousand rubles seemed to be something very cool. It was released in 2012. Back then, the Galaxy S3 and HTC One X were on the market.

HTC Mozart didn't last even a year due to the operating system, whose app store was empty. The system itself seemed fast and interesting, but the lack of proper applications made it a useless toy.

The next gadget was HTC One X, which they bought for me for 15 thousand rubles, and it was serious money back in 2013, at least for my family. In 2013, iPhone 5s, HTC One M7 were already released. The One X is, of course, a completely different level from what I had before. This was the highest quality upgrade I've ever owned a phone. As I remember today this awesome Sense 4+ skin with amazing design. It was the most beautiful shell I have ever come across. And One X at that time with soft-touch plastic was just a fairy tale.

However, I always wanted to try iPhone, so a year later at the end of 2013 I purchased iPhone 5s. I owned it for a very long time – about four years. List of all my devices: Samsung c110, Samsung e200, Nokia 5228, HTC Mozart, HTC One X, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 5s , Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro, Blackberry Z10, Motorola Razr I, Xiaomi Mi 5x, Zuk Z2, iPhone 6, Xiaomi Redmi 6, Xiaomi Mi 9 Lite.

I can still remember Razr I and BlackBerry Z10. Extremely interesting and unusual smartphones. This is where I would end my stories and ask you to share your phones and opinions about them in the comments below. Don't forget about our Telegram.
