New smartphones are always interesting to people. The initial wave of popularity and increased interest in foldable smartphones subsided a bit, but curiosity still remained. And even if a person does not plan to buy such a device for himself for still a lot of money, he wonders if the manufacturer will be able to overcome difficulties this time and release something that will not creak, crunch, break or just leave a crease on the tap. No one doubts that on August 5 Samsung will show a new foldable smartphone. But what will it be called and what will it look like? Samsung gives us a short teaser that answers some of the questions.

What will the new foldable Samsung be like?

It's worth starting with the fact that a couple of days ago there was a message that a folding smartphone from the Korean company will now be called the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2. Previously, it was simply called Galaxy Fold, but, apparently, the company decided to consolidate the success of the Galaxy Z Flip and to bring the line of foldable phones to a common name, so that they complement each other and do not cause unnecessary confusion.

Also, for a couple of weeks, there are periodic reports that the company really plans to present a new product at the Samsung Unpacked event on August 5 this year. A few days later, Ross Young of Display Supply Chain Consultants revealed that his sources had confirmed this information. However, deliveries will not begin until October.

He was like this last year. What will it be this year?

Now Samsung itself has released a new teaser for its Galaxy Unpacked event on August 5. This teaser tells us that the company is preparing to announce the Galaxy Z Fold 2.

The 12-second video shows a bronze blob that turns into a butterfly-like blob. It was the butterfly that was on the wallpaper of the original Samsung Galaxy Fold. From this it immediately becomes clear what we are talking about – a new foldable phone. Maybe this is how the company just makes it clear that there will definitely be a smartphone, or maybe it hints at a better display.

This year, the “clamshell” will be called Galaxy Z Fold 2. Based on this, we can conclude, voiced at the beginning of the article, that the company wants to take advantage of the success of the second clamshell in its history, released this spring.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 specifications

First of all, the new product will offer a 7.59-inch foldable AMOLED screen. It will support a 120Hz refresh rate and will have a resolution of 2213 by 1689 pixels. The external display will receive a diagonal of 6.23 inches.

The smartphone will run on the recently announced processor Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 Plus clocked at 3.09 GHz. Such an impressive processor will receive in addition 12 GB of RAM and 512 GB of internal memory.

What if the new Fold is like this?

It is also not worthwhile to assume and hope that such a device will cost less than the original model, since the characteristics are too impressive even for an ordinary smartphone, not to mention a clamshell, where almost half of the cost is taken for new technology.

As for the camera, then, most likely, it will have a resolution of 64 megapixels, and there will be three modules in total. All this will be powered by a 4 365 mAh battery. This is normal for a regular phone, but don't forget that we are talking about a clamshell. For such a device, this is truly amazing.

The release of the second phone in the line is good news. How many cool ideas have we seen that have never been developed? One outgoing camera was worth what. In this case, the company has invested hundreds of millions of dollars (if not billions) and years of work in the development of a new generation display, but the first models were of interest only to technology fans and fans of everything unusual, and were too expensive to become massive.

Samsung somehow managed to keep the price tag at a more or less normal level. As a result, Samsung Galaxy Z Flip can be bought in Russia for about 100,000 rubles. And the first generation Samsung Galaxy Fold costs about 130,000 rubles. The price varies depending on the seller and other factors, but it still does not compare to the Huawei Mate Xs, which still costs about 200,000 rubles.

There were many concepts, but we will find out the truth only in a couple of weeks.

What else will be shown on Samsung Unpacked on August 5

Despite the interest in the new foldable smartphone, the main character at the upcoming presentation will be the new generation of Samsung Galaxy Note. This year it will be the Galaxy Note 20.

For a long time it was not clear which smartphones of the line will be shown at the presentation, but now more and more sources say that there will be not three models, but only two. In addition to the usual Galaxy Note 20, there will also be an Ultra version.

The top version will almost certainly receive a quad camera with a maximum resolution of 108 megapixels. According to rumors, this time all the autofocus problems will be fixed.

In addition to the Note 20 smartphones, the company will also showcase the Galaxy Z Flip 5G, which will be an updated version of the phone launched earlier this year. Among the updates we expect the Snapdragon 865 complete with an external modem 5G and a new brown version. Last but not least, the company may introduce new earbuds dubbed the Galaxy Buds live.

If you are expecting something else from the presentation, tell us about it in our Telegram chat. What if someone from Samsung reads this and thinks about implementing the idea?
