We have already found out that there are no problems with updates on Android, just Google's approach to this process is fundamentally different from the approach Apple, which simply cannot fix a bug in an application without releasing system-wide update. However, the advantages of the path chosen by the search giant remain unclear for many, and they continue to actively demand new versions of the operating system on a 'just to be' basis. Therefore, manufacturers really do not like to publicly announce the end of support for one or another smartphone, fearing loss of credibility in the eyes of users. But not Huawei.
Huawei not the most loyal vendor when it comes to updates
Huawei has decided that it will not release Android 10 for at least 8 of its potentially upgradeable smartphones. This list does not include the flagships of previous years, which makes it possible to judge its inconclusiveness, even if the Chinese choose not to publish an updated revision. After all, if users react rather calmly to the termination of support for budget models, then when a manufacturer's reluctance to release updates for a once top-end device appears in the public field, this can cause serious indignation, which Huawei in its current position must be avoided.
Smartphones Huawei that will not receive Android 10
Honor Play – popular but not renewable
- Honor Play
- Honor 9
- Honor 9 Lite
- Honor 8X Max
- Huawei Y9 2019
- Huawei Nova 3
- Huawei Nova 3i
- Huawei P20 Lite
There are at least two models in this list that, in my opinion, Huawei should have been updated. These are Huawei Y9 2019, which is not yet a year old, and Huawei P20 Lite. Despite the fact that the latter is not a flagship, it belongs to the P20 line, two devices of which Android 10 still received. Therefore, in order not to create segregations within at least one model range and not to show users indifference to relatively new devices, the company had to release an up-to-date version of the operating system for them.
Security Updates Android
Despite the fact that Huawei stops updating smartphones from this list, she promises to continue releasing regular security updates for some of them. One of the devices that is guaranteed further support is Honor Play. According to representatives of the Indian office Huawei, these devices turned out to be incompatible with Android 10 due to hardware restrictions, but these restrictions do not apply to security patches. However, how often they will be released is still in question.
I am absolutely confident that the promise to continue releasing security patches for Honor Play was made on pain of causing resentment among users. In the end, this smartphone is quite popular all over the world, and therefore it would be imprudent to announce the end of its support like this head on. However, it is important to understand that Huawei constantly has some kind of problems, due to which it either releases security patches even for flagships with a noticeable delay, or does not release them at all, pretending that it is on such an obligation I didn't take myself.
