OnePlus smartphone users generally know what they want. They are used to getting quality phones with good hardware for adequate money. And apparently, the new OnePlus 8 doesn't fit in here at all. Not to mention the OnePlus 7 Pro, which only a few will buy for $ 900 (and now it is almost 70,000 rubles). Where does this conclusion come from? We've been talking about OnePlus playing with flagships for a long time, but the best way to prove this statement is to ask the users of this brand's phones themselves.
For many OnePlus fans, the choice was obvious
A couple of days ago, there was a whole discussion on Android Authority. Users discussed what to buy now – OnePlus 7T for $ 499; OnePlus 8 for $ 699; or the OnePlus 8 Pro for $ 899. Given that the choice is essentially between 'flagship killer' and 'flagship killer', it seems that most OnePlus fans would rather take the old 'killer' for themselves and spend the money they save on, for example, wireless headphones.
Of the 16,500 people surveyed, over 75% chose last year's OnePlus 7T over any new 2020 brand. That being said, no one disputes that the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro are really powerful smartphones; just the majority are not ready to spend the money requested by the manufacturer on them.
OnePlus has quietly evolved from a 'killer' into a flagship itself
The OnePlus 8 is a very good phone, so I was interested to see if disgruntled fans would fork out regardless of whether they had to vote with their wallets. In fact, the option is a win-win anyway: either shell out for the new OnePlus 8 models and get top-end hardware, or buy the six-month 7T at a discount.
However, enthusiasts clearly yearn for the good old days of affordable flagships. Obviously, OnePlus wanted to start talking on equal terms with Samsung and Huawei, but it would be ugly if the company that created the 'flagship killer' completely abandoned this name by releasing … a flagship! Unfortunately, the only affordable phone that we are likely to see from OnePlus in the near future will be the mid-range OnePlus Z. And then how does OnePlus differ from the same Samsung, which produces lines with less powerful hardware (Galaxy A, Galaxy J ) is several times cheaper than flagships?
The OnePlus 8 Pro is, of course, very good. But not for that kind of money
Why is it better to buy OnePlus 7T instead of OnePlus 8
The best way to answer this question is to read comments from OnePlus users themselves. Some of them were written by readers in our Telegram chat, others I took from comments on Android Authority.
If you wait until next year, the OnePlus 8 will be 'about as inexpensive'. I took the 7T about 3 weeks ago for $ 499. The processor and some other 8-series chips are not worth it. No flagship in 2020 is worth the asking price. 5G and high refresh rate screens are another trick that marketers do to cheat when buying new phones. Last year's flagships, which are now discounted, are more than enough for any use.
In principle, I don’t buy phones more expensive than 40,000 rubles. After 3 years my OnePlus 5 is working fine and I see no reason to update. I changed the battery and now I got an almost new phone.
The OnePlus 8 is worth the money to me, but the 7T is so good that I personally don't see the point in upgrading.
I have a OnePlus 7T and it is cool, my only complaint about it is the camera, which is worse than the Google Pixel I switched from. If you are an Insta blogger with a million subscribers, then buy yourself the OnePlus 8.
If you have a OnePlus 7T then there is no point in upgrading to the OnePlus 8, especially at the manufacturer's asking price … It seems Oneplus will never improve its camera system, plus the improved display and battery life are not worth it. The OnePlus 7T is an amazing phone for its price.
If OnePlus fans themselves do not see the point in updating, I don’t know who will buy OnePlus 8. Of course, there will be those who will appreciate the features of the new phone, but when they go to the same Yandex.Market and see that OnePlus 7T can be bought much cheaper (I'm not talking about AliExpress, sometimes you can find a good deal there), they may change their minds. Yet the price at the present time is a decisive factor.
