Despite the fact that a few years ago iPhone were much inferior to the flagships of competitors in terms of performance, forcing their owners to prove to others that iOS is not subject to testing in benchmarks, some time ago everything changed. Apple managed to find the right path in the development of mobile processors and start designing even more efficient chips than in modern computers, not to mention Android – smartphones. But it seems that this year Cupertino stumbled.
The A14 processor, which was supposed to be the top-end solution on the market, turned out to be mediocre
The A14 processor, which is the world's first processor based on 5nm technology, was not as powerful as it was thought to be before release. Not only does it practically not beat last year's A13, but it also turned out to be weaker than the 7nm Snapdragon 865+, which is equipped with flagship smartphones running Android of 2020. But it is about to be replaced by the newer and more productive Snapdragon 875, which is already in development at Qualcomm.
Which is more powerful: A14 Bionic or Snapdragon 865+
Testing conducted on a presale iPhone 12 Pro Max
The conclusion about the superiority of Snapdragon 865+ over A14 Bionic was made by Ice Universe insider following the results of testing both processors in the AnTuTu benchmark. As a result, it turned out that the new chip Apple is gaining 572 thousand points, while the conditionally old Qualcomm 'stone' is close to 670 thousand. That is, the difference, as you can see, is palpable. Another thing is that it is rather difficult to believe in such results. Still, Apple in recent years has been producing really efficient processors that surpass the top chips for Android smartphones.
Ice Universe is a fairly reputable insider who has made a name for himself on the exact leaks about the products of various companies. Therefore, it is unlikely that he would denigrate his reputation by rigging facts, especially since I personally do not see any reason to do this. But since iPhone 12 Pro Max has not yet gone on sale, such a mediocre performance of the A14 processor can be explained by the fact that the testing involved a pre-sale sample of the smartphone, not adapted to work with the current version of AnTuTu. Therefore, the results obtained will definitely need to be double-checked in order to draw final conclusions.
Most powerful mobile processor
Apple a bit ashamed of the A14 performance numbers
However, if you dig a little deeper, it becomes clear that there may really be something wrong with the A14 Bionic. At the presentation Apple, she generously littered with numbers, mentioning a 40 percent increase in computing power, which many users clung to, starting to praise the company from Cupertino for an incredible upgrade. Here are just a comparison, as a result of which such an increase was revealed, was carried out not with last year's A13, but with the year before last A12, which is now set in the budget iPad 2020.
Apple always does this, comparing the current generation processors with solutions two or even three years ago, when in direct comparison with the previous generation chip, the difference will be almost imperceptible. This is exactly what Cupertino did a year earlier, when they equipped the Apple Watch Series 5 with a previous generation processor, which was installed in Apple Watch Series 4, which was named for camouflage by a different name. Therefore, in general, it is quite possible to assume that A14 will not be the most successful release. After all, Apple was not even afraid to first install it in iPad Air, and not iPhone, which I had never done before.
