Already today, users Android will receive an update that will add support to their smartphones for tracking coronavirus patients from Apple and Google. Thanks to her, healthy users will be able to be aware of the fact that they have had contact with a person diagnosed with COVID-19. As conceived by the creators of the system, in this way it will be possible to increase the level of awareness of people and their consciousness, giving them a convenient opportunity to warn everyone with whom they contacted about their disease. Only new smartphones Huawei will not receive this system.
Support for Google Play is a prerequisite for compatibility with the tracking system for patients with coronavirus
Despite the fact that Google plans to make the new user tracking mechanism available to the widest audience by distributing it to owners of devices based on Android 6.0 Marsmallow and newer, none of the devices Huawei from the new batch will receive. The fact is that branded smartphones and tablets Huawei, released after the imposition of US sanctions, do not have support for Google Play services, and it is within them that Google will distribute its system.
Which smartphones Huawei do not support Google Play
All new smartphones Huawei and Honor will remain without a mechanism for tracking COVID-19 patients
Colleagues from TechRadar contacted the official representatives Huawei and found out that this information is true, and the tracking system support WILL NOT RECEIVE these devices:
- Huawei P40 / P40 Pro
- Huawei P40 Lite / P40 Lite E
- Huawei Mate 30 / Mate 30 Pro
- Huawei Mate Xs
- Honor 30 Pro
- Huawei MatePad Pro
In fact, the list of devices Huawei and Honor that will not receive the tracking system for COVID-19 patients from Google is not that wide. In any case, there will be much more compatible devices. These are not only flagship smartphones of previous years of release, but also quite inexpensive models. In a word, all those gadgets that support Google Play services and Bluetooth Low Energy out of the box will be able to track contacts with patients with coronavirus infection and notify their owners about it.
Tracking system for patients with coronavirus
You can report your diagnosis of COVID-19 in a special application
If you do not understand well what this is about, I will explain in a nutshell. Two weeks ago Apple and Google announced plans to launch a universal system based on Bluetooth Low Energy, which will record meetings of all users. If their contact lasts longer than five minutes, the fact of the meeting will be saved with each of them. Subsequently, if one of the users finds out that he has a positive test for COVID-19, he will be able to report this (or may not) in a special application that will analyze all his contacts and notify those users about the need to be checked, not naming the names of potential carriers of infection.
The new system was originally planned to launch in mid-May, but last week Apple and Google decided that the launch should be done earlier. Therefore, in a matter of days, after making adjustments to the principle of the tracking mechanism, the companies set a release for April 28th. At first, the system will work in test mode, learning to correctly record user contacts, and after a while specialized applications will appear, where patients with coronavirus will be able to report their diagnosis. However, it is still unknown who will release these applications and who will be responsible for processing disease data.
