The main thing is the ability to download YouTube, be in touch with parents and periodically play various games that require considerable processor performance from the device and at least 2 gigabytes of RAM. What phones fit these criteria? In 2019, for example, we already compiled a similar list, but then we relied more on low cost, but times are changing, and just a smartphone as a dialer is hardly suitable. Something more serious is needed.
What smartphone can you recommend for your child in 2020? There are many options, and we will consider the most interesting.
Samsung Galaxy A01 – phone on Android 10 for 8 thousand rubles
This is a budget device from Samsung, which offers its users a fresh version Android and a hard-wearing case that is not a pity to scratch.
We'll probably start with something simpler. For 7,990 rubles on the official Samsung website, you can purchase the Galaxy A01. The device runs on a rather weak processor, is equipped with a 3000 mAh battery, and has an HD-resolution screen.
Would I buy it for a child? Probably, this is what I would choose if we are talking about a child aged 8-11 years, since, firstly, it is not so massive with a 5.7-inch screen and weighs only 149 grams. Galaxy A01 has a plastic matte casing, which is not a pity to scratch, and the device works on a fresh Android 10 with the proprietary Samsung One UI 2.0 shell, which it installs in expensive phones costing 50-100 thousand rubles.
Redmi 8 – 5000 mAh battery its main feature
A budget phone from Redmi with a 5000 mAh battery. The downside is the large size, thick body and considerable weight – it's hard to hold such a miracle in your hands.
Redmi 8 has good value. In Russia, the device can be bought for 9,990 rubles. Its main advantage, I would call excellent autonomy – it is equipped with a 5000 mAh battery (it will last for 3 days of use without recharging!). The processor here, though not the coolest, is the Snapdragon 439. If that doesn't tell you anything, just know that this is a quality and good chipset from the brand name, but it is part of the entry-level processor line and will not offer enough performance to play into something serious with 3D graphics like PUBG and Fortnite.
But for the money, the device isn't bad, and you'll love it. The only drawback, I would call it too large dimensions and weight – it will be difficult for a child to hold it in his hands for a long time, so it is better to think carefully before buying.
But there is also Meizu X8. This is the most interesting option for its price.
Considering the processor, this is probably one of the best smartphones in terms of value for money. I doubt that for 10 thousand rubles you will find a more productive solution.
For 10 thousand rubles, we have one more excellent device on the Snapdragon 710 processor available. This line of chipsets is distinguished by high, but not maximum, performance. X8 in games will be slightly weaker Redmi Note 8 Pro, but it costs almost half as much.
Meizu offers us a 6.2-inch screen, Snapdragon 710 processor, 4 gigabytes of RAM and 64 gigabytes of internal storage. The battery in the device is 3210 mAh.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro is the most powerful on this list
And this is Redmi Note 8 Pro. It has an excellent camera, nice looks with 3D glass both on the front and back. It also has a powerful gaming processor and a decent screen. Yes, no AMOLED – technology, but it doesn't matter.
Now let's take a look at something more serious – Redmi Note 8 Pro. Yes, it costs 18 thousand, but I want to note that 4 cameras are installed here, one of which is 64 megapixels, there is a game processor with a liquid cooling system, a 4500 mAh battery, there is NFC, fast charging, a 6.53-inch screen with FullHD-resolution, 6 gigabytes of RAM and 128 gigabytes of internal memory. I would say that for a teenager aged 12-17, this is the perfect solution.
So which smartphones would I recommend exactly? Galaxy A01 for a child under 11 and Meizu 8X for a child under 17. All other options are just as good and would be a decent choice, but if you get the opportunity to purchase the A01 or Meizu 8X, you definitely won't go wrong.
