Why the S Pen is the main disadvantage of the Samsung Galaxy Note 20

Can just one detail of a smartphone spoil the whole impression of it? Of course yes! For example, Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra camera, antenna iPhone 4, Google Pixel 3 appearance … Examples can be cited for a long time, but these will be more likely mistakes of engineers, programmers or designers, but there are examples of when a proprietary feature is the main disadvantage of the device. So it was with the Samsung Galaxy Note line, which is produced year after year with the same element, which forces the manufacturer to compromise. As a result, he makes not the most popular decision and the smartphone becomes a niche device not for everyone and not for every day.

Why the S Pen is the main disadvantage of the Samsung Galaxy Note 20

Technically, there are no questions about this stylus. But it takes up too much space in the case.

What is S Pen

The S Pen is a trademark of the Samsung Galaxy Note line of smartphones. This is a stylus, but, as they say, not simple, but gold. This is not just a stick to poke at the screen, as we did fifteen years ago with our PDAs. It performs a lot more functions than those styluses.

Moreover, every year he receives new functions and makes it possible to work with him more and more productively. I have never been a fan of such a solution, but I admit that now it may be relevant. However, for a very narrow type of tasks.

Unlike stylus, which Apple and Samsung produce for tablets and which are magnetized to the body, the S Pen is hidden inside the smartphone and it is very convenient, since it is impossible to accidentally lose it. He appears only at the moment when he is really needed. True, this is precisely his main problem. And at the same time and the Achilles heel of the smartphone as a whole.

Why the S Pen is the main disadvantage of the Samsung Galaxy Note 20

The S Pen has always been an important part of the Galaxy Note.

The main disadvantage of the Samsung Galaxy Note

Despite the large body of the Samsung Galaxy Note (no matter what generation), they usually have a very small battery. Even when compared to the Samsung Galaxy S of the same model year, the difference in battery capacity is about 10 percent. Many people don't think about it, but it’s nice to get an extra hour of work under load or an extra half day in standby mode.

There is now information that the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Plus battery will receive a slight upgrade over the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Plus, but this is an extremely minimal change. You can even say that it needs more for show, just to justify the changes (and, most likely, the price increase), and at the same time loudly say from the stage that now the battery is larger than last year.

According to information received from the Galaxy Club, the upcoming Samsung device will come with a 4,500mAh battery. Compared to last year's variant, which had a 4,300mAh battery, that's an improvement, but not much. It is not difficult to calculate that it is only 200 mAh or less than five percent.

The Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra has a much larger 5,000mAh battery, which gives it impressive battery life. However, there is a good reason for the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Plus to have a smaller battery. This is precisely the reason for the S Pen. Whatever one may say, but it takes place in the case. Considering how tightly everything is placed inside, and the fact that most of the inside of the case is given to the battery, the size of the stylus becomes a real problem.

However, the fact that the battery is only slightly larger does not mean that its lifespan will improve significantly. Of course, the novelty will receive many energy saving systems and I want to believe that it will be more economical itself, but you shouldn't make a big bet on these 200 mAh batteries. There will be an additional resource, but not much.

The S Pen also comes in a variety of colors.

Battery Samsung Galaxy Note 20

Back in April, there were rumors that the regular Samsung Galaxy Note 20 would have a 4,000mAh battery versus 3,500mAh last year. This difference in a simpler and more compact model is achieved due to the fact that the capacity of the battery does not grow in proportion to its size. At some point, she starts to lag behind.

Of course, all these numbers are just numbers at the moment, since the actual battery life varies depending on many factors. We won't be able to figure out what the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Plus can do in terms of battery life until we have used it for an extended period of time.

One thing is for sure! Buying this smartphone just because you like it on its own, you get a kind of “suitcase without a handle”, which is difficult to carry and a pity to throw away. This is exactly what the S Pen will carry. If not for him, it would have been possible to save space for about an extra 500-600 mAh, but the manufacturer stubbornly goes the other way, offering the buyer a choice.

Fans of the model are not ready to give up a convenient tool for them for a ten percent increase in autonomy. This is their business. Just keep in mind that you have to pay autonomy to use the stylus.
