Samsung flagships have clear camera issues, but they know what to do

The cameras of modern smartphones shoot very well, but the flagship manufacturers have to constantly come up with something to surprise the sophisticated user. Any tricks are used, because the camera is what absolutely everyone uses. When we pick up a smartphone to see how it works, the first thing we do is launch the camera. Even at the presentation of new devices, they usually devote almost half of the time to it, dryly listing the rest of the characteristics. Only the screen and the processor are stopped in more or less detail, but it is the camera that is always the headliner of the event. Samsung has always been good at making good cameras, but this year's flagships fall a little short of the promised values. The latest information suggests the company seems to know what to do and is not going to give up along the way.

Potentially this camera is very good, but it needs a little 'finishing'.

Camera Samsung Galaxy Note 20

Now the flagships of Samsung, such as the Galaxy S20 Ultra and Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, do not reach the values that were promised at the presentation and which they continue to talk about in advertising. The main problems are related to focusing speed and image quality at maximum zoom. The advertisement shows that you can bring a person closer to a hundredfold zoom and it will be perfectly visible. In fact, this is not the case and I talked about this in the experience of using the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra.

One could say that the company has chosen another dead-end let in the development of technologies, but it seems that it does not think so and continues to bend its line. There is even information that she knows what exactly needs to be done to solve the existing problems.

Now Ice Universe, known for its fairly accurate predictions and leaks regarding Samsung smartphones, said that the sequel to the S20 Ultra will also stay true to the course taken this year. It will also include a 108MP primary sensor. However, it will not be the same ISOCELL Bright HM1 sensor found in the S20 Ultra or Note 20 Ultra – instead, you will find a 'successor' to the HM1.

The solution to the problem with the speed and quality of focusing is gradually being solved by the company now. For this, various software tools and updates are used, but the time has come to resolve the issue precisely at the “iron” level. If I may say so, the issue must be resolved ironically.

When a smartphone is expensive, its camera cannot be said to be just good. Outstanding figures are needed.

It is still impossible to say what the updated sensor will be, but it should definitely help the company solve the current problems, and it knows about it. Moreover, about half a year is left before the premiere of the novelty. Even though usually the final prototype is ready a few weeks before production starts, there is still a lot of time. The company not only can, but must do everything. However, some sources are confident that Samsung will not do this.

Do I need a smartphone with a high camera resolution

One might assume that Samsung will stop using its 108MP sensor in 2021, but this resolution is the reason why users turn their attention to Samsung smartphones. Moreover, in the opinion of many, the number of megapixels decides the issue of photo quality. Although, there are many smartphones that shoot at all no worse than the new Samsung. For example, Google Pixel 4a or iPhone new generations, including iPhone SE2.

Just recently, models came out that still drown not for permission, but for other parameters. Just last year, Sony came out with smartphones that shot great, but at the same time had three 12 megapixel cameras. So it turned out to achieve albeit not very high resolution, but high quality photos. Now we are being offered a main sensor of 48 megapixels, a telemodule of 16 megapixels, but with 3x zoom. Where is the logic, if it's easier to crop a picture with a resolution of 48 megapixels a little and get the same result. Of course, if you believe the manufacturer, who talks about crystal detailing.

Smartphone cameras are sticking out more and more. Not least because of new sensors and a large number of lenses in optics.

A top-end sensor with a high resolution is expensive and large, you can't install it in all the camera holes, but in fact we just get lenses for the load. Yes, they shoot a little with different distortions and this can be used, but 95% of users do not understand this and just buy for numbers.

What's important about a phone camera

Users forget or simply don't know that other metrics are important in the first place. For example, the physical size of the pixel itself, which simply cannot grow with the increase in their number on one sensor. Of course, unless the size of the sensor has grown, which is unlikely in small smartphone cameras. And the quality of the lenses that transmit light in the matrix is also important. I'm not talking about the fact that they focus well and quickly, which is so lacking in the new Samsung.

At this point, the South Korean giant has indeed released several updates that should fix the camera. Autofocus worked a little better, although sometimes it makes mistakes, but with the superzoom, there were problems, and they remain. It seems that software cannot solve this, and if the company wants to keep this function, then it needs to do something urgently. What would you recommend companies?

The main thing is that she does not chase the 150x or 200x zoom, which will become an even larger mess of pixels.
